Chuseok Workshop Offers Students a Taste of Korean Tradition

To celebrate Chuseok, Korea’s traditional harvest festival, the Office of International Affairs hosted a hands-on Songpyeon (half-moon rice cake) workshop on September 19 at Jiphyeonjae, the university dormitory. The event invited international students to experience one of Korea’s most cherished holiday customs by making and tasting their own songpyeon. Under the guidance of the event organizers, students learned how to shape the colorful rice cakes, fill them with sweet ingredients, and steam them to perfection. Due to high interest, participants were divided into three sessions throughout the afternoon, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience in a comfortable and engaging setting. Many students shared that it was their first time learning about Chuseok and that the workshop helped them better understand Korean culture while making new friends.
