교수소개

본인은 서울대학교에서 석사 졸업 후, 미국 버팔로뉴욕주립대학에서 심근신경접합부에서의 아세틸콜린에스터라제의 조절연구로 박사학위를 취득하였다. 그 후 메사추세스공과대학, 하버드의과대학에서 포스트닥, 책임연구원으로 근무하면서 근ㆍ신경접합부 형성기전, 중추신경재생, 신경성장인자 및 신경활성 약물들의 생리활성 연구를 수행하였다. 생명공학회사인 켐브리지뉴로사이언스 회사에서는 책임연구원으로 근무하면서 근ㆍ신경 재생을 연구하였다. 귀국 후에는 국립보건원 뇌질환과장으로 재직하면서 알츠하이머 치매를 비롯한 퇴행성 뇌질환연구에 관심을 갖고 연구를 시작하였는데, 지난 10년 동안 국가연구사업인 ‘뇌의약학연구사업단’을 만들어 보건복지부 뇌질환분야의 연구를 총괄하면서 많은 뇌연구기획에 참여하였다. 지난 2010년 9월 단국대학교에 임용되었으며 약학대학 설립에 관여하고 있다.
관심 연구 분야로는 알츠하이머 치매의 진단 치료제 개발로서, 새로운 타겟을 찾고 기전을 확인하며, 후보 물질 개발을 위한 스크린 시스템을 개발하는 것이다. 최근에는 아밀로이드를 분해하는 생체내 단백질로서 glutamate carboxypeptidaseII를 발견하여 보고하였는데 유사한 기능을 갖는 다른 효소들도 발굴하여 그 기능을 검증 중에 있다. 또한 알츠하이머 치매의 조기진단을 위한 혈액 마커 개발 연구를 진행해 오고 있다. 본 연구실은 조직재생관련 연구에도 많은 관심이 있어 다양한 질병모델에서의 신경성장인자에 의한 근신경, 중추신경 재생촉진 연구를 수행하고 있고, 중금속과 같은 환경독성물질에 의한 신경계 손상기전도 연구하고있다.
