교수소개

고려대학교 화학공학과를 졸업하고, 1996년 동대학원에서 생물화학공학을 전
공하여 공학박사학위를 취득하였다. 학위논문 제목은 "비등온 동시당화 알콜
발효의 동력학적 연구" 이었으며, 주로 바이오매스 전환, 바이오에너지 생산
등과 관련하여 연구하였다. 1990년부터 2년간 제일제당 식품연구소에서 발효
식품에 관련된 연구를 수행한 바 있으며, 미국 Auburn University, 화학공학과
에서 박사후 연수과정(Post-Doc.)을 마치고 1998년 단국대학교 공업화학과

부임하게 되었다. 주요 연구 관심분야는 바이오에너지 개발, 곰팡이를 비롯한
미생물의 생육 또는 이차대사물의 대량생산, 그리고 이산화탄소의 생물학적

정화 등이다. 여기에는 바이오매스의 전처리(Biomass Pretreatment), 동시당
화발효(SSF; Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation), 생물반응기
설계(Bioreactor Design), 배지 최적화(Media Optimization), 생물공정 최적

(Bioprocess Optimization) 등이 포함된다. 대학원에서는 생물공정공학 연구
실(Bioprocess Engineering Lab.)을 운영하고 있으며, 약산처리에 의한 바이
오매스의 당화, 미세조류(micro algae) 대량생산을 위한 광생물 반응기 개발,
건강식품 소재 개발을 위한 고등균류(버섯류) 유래 기능성 다당체의 생산과 관
련된 연구과제를 수행중에 있다.
