교수소개

미생물생태학(Microbial ecology)은 미생물과 생물학적 및 무생물학적 환경과의 관련성을 연구하는 미생물학의 한 분야로서, 환경에 존재하는 유기 및 무기 물질의 순환, 미생물군의 분포 및 역할, 미생물학적 제어, 더 나아가서 미생물이 환경생태에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하는 학문이다. 미생물의 다양한 생리적 기능 및 서식지, 그리고 빠른 진화와 적응력은 환경오염 물질 제어에 매우 적합하며, 최근에는 분자생물학적 방법을 이용한 미생물군의 분포 확인 및 유전자 클로닝을 도입하여 효율적인 미생물을 개발하고 이용하는 방안도 제시되어지고 있다.
따라서 본 연구실에서는 생태계의 물질순환 및 미생물 군집구조를 분석하고, 유전자조작을 통한 균주개발 및 다양한 생태계에서 신종 미생물을 찾고 생태계 내에서의 역할을 규명하는 연구를 수행하고 있다. 또한 수질오염원을 분석하여 환경오염 제어를 위한 연구와 함께 미생물을 이용한 환경정화기술 개발도 수행하고 있다. 더불어 최근 기후변화와 관련한 환경 미생물 및 환경 바이러스의 분포특성 파악 및 제어기술까지 다양한 환경 미생물 분야로 연구를 확대하고 있다.
